ITIL (Version 5) Certification Scheme and Learning Path
The ITIL (Version 5) qualification scheme starts with ITIL Foundation and advances through eight Advanced modules plus one extension module. These advanced modules are grouped into three learning streams, each leading to a professional designation:
- ITIL Practice Manager (Version 5)
- ITIL Managing Professional (Version 5)
- ITIL Strategic Leader (Version 5)
Completing all required modules within a stream earns the corresponding designation. Learners who complete all three designations reach the highest level of recognition: ITIL Master. Together, these four designations provide a clear, structured pathway for building expertise in digital product and service management.

Below is a detailed explanation of each certification, module and designation.
ITIL® Foundation (Version 5)
ITIL Foundation (Version 5) is the starting point for all learners. It provides a common language and introduces the core concepts and unified lifecycle for managing digital products and services. Learners gain a foundational understanding of value creation, collaboration, governance, and continual improvement.
ITIL® Practice Manager (Version 5)
To earn the ITIL Practice Manager designation, candidates complete ITIL Foundation and select one Practice Specialization Module. Each specialization module covers five defined ITIL practices.
- ITIL Monitor, Support and Fulfil (MSF): it covers Service Desk, Incident Management, Problem Management, Service Request Management, Monitoring and Event Management practices
- ITIL Plan, Implement and Control (PIC): it covers Change Enablement, Deployment Management, Release Management, Service Configuration Management and IT Asset Management practices
- ITIL Collaborate, Assure and Improve (CAI): it covers Relationship Management, Supplier Management, Service Level Management, Continual Improvement and Information Security Management practices
To complete the Practice Manager designation, candidates must also complete ITIL Transformation and pass the related exam.

ITIL Transformation only needs to be completed once, and the certification counts toward all three designations.
ITIL® AI Governance (Extension Module)
AI Governance is the extension module in the ITIL (Version 5) qualification scheme. It focuses on the responsible, ethical, and compliant adoption of artificial intelligence, covering key areas such as risk management, transparency, accountability, and regulatory compliance.
